Lincoln Heritage of DeWitt County

About Us

The Lincoln Heritage Commitee of DeWitt County's goals are to promote
the
Clinton and DeWitt County area's rich Lincoln heritage.
Lincoln played an
important role in Clinton's early development for nearly
20 years, beginning with
the formation of the 8th Judicial Circuit in 1839,
two years after Lincoln
began the practice of law, until 1859,
the year prior to his election as President.

Individuals, businesses and organizations secure membership with the
Lincoln Heritage Committee of DeWitt County for various reasons.

*  There are those who take an interest in DeWitt County history,
Civil War history or American history

 *  Those who admire Lincoln the man, Lincoln the prairie lawyer or
Lincoln the politician and President, descendants of
DeWitt County residents who befriended Lincoln

*  Those who recognize the potential impact
the Lincoln Heritage Committee of DeWitt County's work
will have on local tourism revenue

*  Those who wish to promote community pride

*  Those who simply wish to contribute to our organization
so we can carry on with our work

*  and even one member who literally "wrote the book" on Lincoln
and his DeWitt County ties.
